Ferry Gouw lives and works in London
Ferry Gouw is an illustrator, graphic designer, and video director. When he was 15 he moved from Indonesia to London, where he now resides with his wife. He studied Art and Design at Central St Martins, before completing his Masters degree in Filmmaking at Mike Leigh's London Film School. Ferry Gouw is the art director of Major Lazer, designing all aspects of their visual output from the character designs, record sleeves, posters, merch, to music and lyric videos. He is also the art director of the Major Lazer cartoon TV show, showing on FXX. Ferry Gouw grew up in Indonesia watching classic 80's American cartoons such as Silverhawks, Centurions, Dino Riders, as well as Japanese anime, such as Saint Seiya, Mazinger Z, and Doraemon. He consumed this alongside reading both Marvel comics and Japanese manga. All this became a big influence on his illustration style. He is also influenced by the rich history of illustrated record covers coming out of 70's and 80's Jamaica, with artists like Wilfred Limonious and labels such as Greensleeves leading the way. The mixture of all these styles went into his work for Major Lazer".
